How it works
Welmi does not connect to fitness trackers or smartwatches directly. Instead, it reads your activity data through Apple Health (iPhone) or Health Connect (Android). As long as your watch or tracker syncs with one of those platforms, Welmi will pick up the data automatically.
Welmi reads your steps and workouts. On iPhone, it also reads the calories burned during your workouts, and it works with any watch or tracker that syncs with Apple Health, such as Apple Watch or Garmin.
On iPhone, Welmi also sends the meals you log to Apple Health. See Sending your meals to Apple Health (iPhone) below.
Weight from a smart scale (iPhone): Welmi also picks up weigh-ins that other apps or a smart scale save to Apple Health and adds them to your weight history on the Progress tab automatically. Weigh-ins recorded before you updated Welmi to version 7.4 are not imported. On Android, Welmi does not read weight from Health Connect, so log your weight in Welmi.
iPhone — Apple Health setup
Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Welmi.
Turn on Steps and Workouts.
To have your meals sent to Apple Health, also turn on Dietary Energy, Protein, Total Fat, Carbohydrates and Fiber.
Alternatively: open the Health app → tap your profile picture in the top-right corner → Apps → Welmi and turn on the same permissions.
Updates may take a few minutes to appear in Welmi after you grant access.
Apple Watch
No extra setup is needed. Apple Watch data flows through Apple Health automatically — just make sure Health permissions are enabled for Welmi (see above).
Garmin Connect and other apps (iPhone)
Welmi has no direct connection to Garmin, Fitbit or Strava. If your device's app shares its data with Apple Health, Welmi can read it from there:
Open Garmin Connect (or your device's app) and, in its settings, allow it to share data with Apple Health.
Open the Health app → tap your profile picture in the top-right corner → Apps → Welmi and turn on Steps and Workouts.
Your steps and workouts then appear in Welmi automatically, sometimes with a short delay.
Sending your meals to Apple Health (iPhone)
On iPhone, Welmi 7.0 and later sends every meal you log in your diary to Apple Health: calories (Dietary Energy), protein, fat, carbohydrates and fiber. On Android, Welmi doesn't send meals or nutrition to Health Connect or Samsung Health.
There is no separate switch for this in Welmi. After you update the app, your iPhone asks once for Health access; new users see the request during setup. If you tapped Don't Allow or turned some items off, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Welmi (or open the Health app → tap your profile picture → Apps → Welmi) and turn on Dietary Energy, Protein, Total Fat, Carbohydrates and Fiber. Turn them off there to stop sending meals.
What appears in Apple Health. Each nutrient is saved as a separate entry at the time of the meal, with Welmi as the source, so you find your meals under Dietary Energy, Protein, Total Fat, Carbohydrates and Fiber rather than as one food entry. Zero values and water are not sent. If you allowed only some of these items, Welmi sends only those nutrients.
Edits and deletions. When you edit or delete a meal in Welmi, the change also appears in Apple Health.
Earlier days. Welmi doesn't send your whole history at once. Meals you log after allowing access are sent right away. A past day goes to Apple Health when you open that day in the Welmi diary, so to add meals you logged before allowing access, open those days.
One direction only. Welmi sends meals to Apple Health but doesn't read food from it, so meals other apps save to Apple Health don't appear in Welmi. Steps, workouts and weigh-ins are still read as described above.
Entries already sent stay in Apple Health if you turn off access or delete your Welmi account. You can delete them in the Health app.
Burned calories and your daily goal
You can choose to have burned calories added to your daily calorie target. Go to Profile → Calories & Macros and turn on Add Burned Calories. If you prefer a fixed goal that doesn't change, leave this option disabled.
Android — Health Connect setup
Tap the Steps widget inside Welmi.
Grant the permission prompt.
Install Google Fit if you don't already have it.
Open Google Fit and sync it with Health Connect.
Your steps and activity data will begin appearing in Welmi.
If your data doesn't appear:
Make sure your watch app (or Google Fit) is allowed to share data with Health Connect — this is usually in that app's settings.
Open Health Connect → App permissions → Welmi and turn on access to steps and activity.
Open your phone's Settings → Apps → Welmi → Permissions and allow Physical activity.
Samsung devices
Samsung Health connects to Welmi directly. Open the Fitness tab in Welmi, tap the Steps widget and confirm the access request.
Note: If you have Google Fit installed alongside Samsung Health, you may see doubled step counts. To avoid this, use only one data source or manage your connected sources in Health Connect settings.
Android smartwatches (Samsung, Huawei, etc.)
There is no direct integration between Welmi and Android smartwatches. If your watch sends data to Health Connect, Samsung Health, or Google Fit, Welmi can read it from there.
Typical data chain: Watch App → Samsung Health / Google Fit → Health Connect → Welmi.
Adding activities manually
If your device or activity isn't tracked automatically, you can log it by hand:
Tap the red "+" button.
Select Log Exercise.
Choose the activity type and enter the details.
On the new home screen without the red "+" button, tap Add Activity on the Activity card of the Nutrition tab instead.
Frequently asked questions
Does Welmi work with Garmin? There is no direct Garmin integration in Welmi. However, if your Garmin data syncs to Apple Health (iPhone) or Health Connect (Android) through the Garmin Connect app, Welmi can read your steps and workouts from there (on iPhone, also the calories burned during workouts). On iPhone, allow Garmin Connect to share data with Apple Health in its settings (see Garmin Connect and other apps above).
Does Welmi work with Fitbit? Same approach as Garmin — there is no direct integration. If your Fitbit data syncs to Apple Health or Health Connect, Welmi can read it from there.
My steps aren't showing in Welmi. Check that you have granted the correct Health permissions to Welmi. On iPhone, verify in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Welmi. On Android, make sure Health Connect permissions are granted and that Google Fit is syncing.
My watch shows different steps than Welmi. This is usually caused by sync delays. Data from your watch must travel through Apple Health or Health Connect before Welmi can read it. Wait a few minutes and check again.
Can I switch from phone steps to watch steps? Manage your preferred data sources in the Health app (iPhone) or Health Connect (Android). You can set priority order so that watch data takes precedence over phone data.
Important things to remember
Welmi has no direct device connection — it always reads through Apple Health or Health Connect.
On iPhone, Welmi also sends the meals you log to Apple Health. On Android, it sends nothing to Health Connect.
If your watch doesn't sync with Apple Health or Health Connect, Welmi cannot read its data.
Data updates may take a few minutes to appear.
Google Fit may be required on Android to bridge data into Health Connect.
Burned calories features require health permissions to be enabled.
